Message from the Upper Saddle River Police Department
By the time, you receive this message, school will be out, and summer will be here. Many residents will be preparing for summer vacation and enjoying time with extended family and friends. The Upper Saddle River Department would like to warn residents of certain types of criminal activity that can occur when your home is vacant. These include, but are not limited to, criminal mischief, theft of property, trespassing and burglary. Burglary, in particular, has both a financial and emotional impact on its victims. Burglaries can happen at any time, more often than not, when you are not home.
Burglar alarms, camera systems, stopping the mail and newspaper, locking doors and windows, exterior lighting, interior lights on timers are all proven ways to lessen your chances of becoming a victim of a home burglary. Another very effective method is neighbors watching out for neighbors. There is no official neighborhood watch program in the Borough but over the years, observant residents have helped to solve many crimes. Remember, if you see something say something. Do not hesitate call the Police Department, immediately, so we can respond to investigate.
Providing and updating emergency contact information to the Police Department is very important. If a crime occurred at your residence when you were not home, we would be able to make contact with either you or an emergency key holder to assist us.
As a reminder, if you will be away for longer than four days, the Police Department will perform a daily check of your residence. Contact the Police Desk at (201) 327-2700, prior to leaving for vacation, to register for this service.
Please feel free call the Upper Saddle River Detective Bureau for additional information and/or assistance.
We wish you and your family a safe Independence Day and a wonderful summer!
